ABOUT DHARMA AYURVEDA

Preserving the Living Tradition of Ayurveda

Dharma Ayurveda documents the philosophy, principles and daily practice of authentic Ayurveda, continuing a tradition carried forward through the physicians of AyurMana Hospital in Kerala. This is a record of a living clinical tradition, written for readers who want to understand Ayurveda as it is actually practiced.

Ayurveda is not a wellness trend passing through. It is a clinical tradition that has been practiced, refined and passed down through generations of physicians, and it continues today in exactly that form.

Dharma, in its oldest sense, means the natural order that keeps a thing true to itself. It is the word Ayurvedic physicians have long used for the discipline that keeps the body, the seasons and the self in right relation. That is the word behind this site’s name.

Dharma Ayurveda exists to document that discipline faithfully, drawing directly from the Charaka Samhita, the Sushruta Samhita and the physicians who continue to apply their teachings in clinical practice today at AyurMana Hospital in Kerala.

The Meaning of Dharma

In classical thought, Dharma describes the right, natural order for any given thing, the way water is meant to flow downhill or a season is meant to follow its predecessor. Applied to the human body, Dharma is the state in which Vata, Pitta and Kapha, the three doshas, sit in the proportion natural to that individual.

Illness, in this framework, is simply Dharma disrupted, a dosha pulled out of its natural place by diet, season, stress or age. The physician’s task is not to fight the illness directly but to help the body find its way back to its own natural order. This is the principle every article, herb profile and therapy description on this site is ultimately trying to explain.

Our Approach to Knowledge

Every page on this site is checked against a named classical source, most often the Charaka Samhita, Sushruta Samhita or Ashtanga Hridayam, before it is published. Where modern research is referenced alongside classical understanding, the two are kept clearly distinguished rather than blended together.

Content is reviewed by Dr. Jayaprakash, BAMS, MD (Ayurveda), and the physician panel at AyurMana Hospital, who check each entry against classical texts and current clinical practice before it goes live. This site should be a source a practicing Ayurvedic physician would recognize as accurate, not a simplified version written for search engines first and accuracy second.

A Living Legacy, Not a Historical Record

This site exists because AyurMana Hospital exists. Dharma Ayurveda documents the philosophy and principles behind the treatment AyurMana physicians provide every day in Kerala, Panchakarma therapies, herbal formulation, and individually evaluated residential care.

Where a reader wants to go further than reading, to be examined, treated or cared for under physician supervision, that work happens at AyurMana. This site explains the tradition; AyurMana practices it.
